Finding Time to Create Again
Balancing the many threads of a creative life has never been simple—street photography, editing images, writing poetry, reading the authors who keep me inspired, researching several books at once, shaping two websites, and now returning to the rhythm of blogging. Each one asks for time, attention, and a kind of presence that can be hard to summon while juggling the rest of life.
Since my wife’s passing, the path has been difficult. Grief has a way of slowing the world, of rearranging priorities, of making even familiar passions feel distant. But there comes a moment when the fog begins to lift, when the work calls you back—not out of obligation, but out of love. I’m stepping into that moment now.
Cleroux.com is now the home for my street photography and poetry—a place where images, poems, and reflections live together. In the Flâneur’s Notebook I share thoughts on street photography, short essays, news, creative and photographic exercises, and occasional dispatches from the wandering life. The site also hosts three ongoing glossaries—the Street Photographer’s Lexicon, the Street Poet’s Lexicon, and the Flâneur’s Lexicon—each gathering words, ideas, and concepts that deserve closer attention. A new series, Within the Frame, examines a single photograph in depth—its poetic description, visual anatomy, and emotional reading—to teach composition, allegory, the craft of looking, and, above all, the language of photography. My photographs and poems will continue to accumulate here, piece by piece, each post a small encounter with the city.
My other site, StreetsIHaveWalked.com, will be a forum for street photographers to share knowledge and member images. Its main purpose will be a newly updated, full, free, self‑paced online street photography course. We’ll host competitions, offer critique, and add a section dedicated to learning to judge and critique others' work. Resources will be made available on the site, or links will be provided to content on other sites or to must-read books. It will be a place for learning, community, and growth.
If you have requests for articles or questions about the art of Flânerie, Street Photography, Creative Arts, Street Poetry or being or becoming an Artist, I welcome them. This space is meant for conversation, not a monologue.
In the months ahead, I’ll also be announcing workshops, presentations, and eventually mentoring for those who want to explore the art of seeing the street with intention and curiosity.
Thank you for walking with me as I find my way forward.
See you on the streets.
